Conventional Cyber security solutions are unable to provide adequate protection to current and emerging highly complex heterogeneous and large-scale computer networks and communications, e.g. smart cities, smart grids etc. The attack detection systems need to offer effective ways to detect the involved, stealthy, complex and unpredictable cyber-attacks. A reconsideration approach to the cyber security is needed with emphasis on a move away from hypothetical risks, but towards the detection of real threats. Pro-active security approach with continuous monitoring and analysis abridges the dormancy between attack and detection. An all-inclusive data collection, analysis, intelligent application as well as situation-aware, self-healing and self-evolving properties will change the cyber security systems into smart cyber security systems.
This special issue on “Smart Cyber Security Systems” focuses on an emerging area for the International Journal of Cyber Situational Awareness. Cyber Security systems become a key research topic and this special issue provides an esteemed setting for the researchers from academia and industry practitioners working in computer network and communications technologies for security implementations in all layers. The primary focus is on original, high quality, unpublished research of theoretical and practical impact, including concepts, techniques, applications, practical experiences and also review articles. The objective of this special issue is to effect publication that addresses different security problems and their solutions in new frontiers of cyber-systems and cyber-technologies in the modern world.
